Commercial maritime

Transport Safety Victoria (TSV) is responsible for ensuring that operators of commercial vessels are appropriately qualified, vessels are appropriately crewed and standards are set and maintained for navigational aids. TSV’s Commercial Qualifications team can assist you in gaining the relevant qualifications.

TSV also verifies that the design, construction and equipment of new and existing commercial vessels meet minimum specified standards. All commercial vessels are required to be surveyed by a TSV Marine Surveyor and have a valid certificate of survey before operating in Victoria. You can find more information about commercial vessel surveys from the link below.

There are responsibilities for owners and operators of all vessels to report marine accidents and incidents. For more information please visit our Incidents and Investigations pages.
